Quality of Service (QoS)

For an optimal experience we recommend the following Quality of Service settings be done on your firewall, you do not have to do all of these settings but we have listed them in order of impact:
  • Mandatory setting for phones to work:
    • SIP ALG Policy: Disabled
  • Optional QoS settings to improve quality:
    • Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP):  46
    • Per-Hop-Behavior (PHB): EF
    • Layer 2 Voice Class of Service (CoS): 5
  • If you have an older router that does not support QoS then sometimes you can define bandwidth shaping priority by traffic ports as follows:
    • 5060 (UDP and TCP)
    • 5061 (TCP)
    • 49152-64512 (UDP)
  • Do you block outbound traffic to IP addresses in China?  If you are using any of the phone brands listed below, please whitelist their provisioning server IP address accordingly to permit auto provisioning.
    • Fanvil:  fdps.fanvil.com (119.28.67.228)
    • Yealink: rps.yealink.com (52.71.103.102)
    • Snom:  sraps.snom.com  (13.33.165.11)
    • Grandstream:  fm.grandstream.com (35.82.75.208)
  • Do you block outbound traffic  to IP addresses in Canada?    If you do, please ping the IP address of  the user portal that  has been assigned to your account to establish which server of ours you are on and then  whitelist our IP address  accordingly.
    • *.moderntelecom.ca   (where * is a sub domain assigned to your user portal you must ping to see which server you are on, for example myaccount.moderntelecom.ca will resolve to an IP address 64.34.xxx.xxx which you must whitelist to allow your phones to communicate our server)
    • If you do not know your user portal, just ask us and we will let you know your user portal and server IP address.

How to send a fax using eFax

4/28/2023

1.     Compose a blank email, attached the PDF file you wish to have transmitted to the email.  You should leave the body and subject lines of the email blank as they are not transmitted to your recipient, only the PDF file you attach is faxed.

2.     Send the email to xxxxxxxxxx@fax.encryptedtel.com where xxxxxxxxxx with the 10 digit fax number of your intended recipient.
Picture
In the example above we are sending a PDF file called "SCANNED_DOCUMENT.PDF" to 9057690318
3.     Within 5 minutes you will receive a return email confirming if the fax was sent successfully or if there was a problem – this email serves as your fax transmission receipt.

4.     You are only permitted to send faxes on behalf of your company if you are authorised, if you should receive an fax receipt saying you are not authorised to send a fax, then you must email  us at [email protected] from your new email address and we will authorise you.
Pro-Tip:
For contacts you commonly send faxes too, you can save the [email protected] email address as a contact that way in the future you can just type their name and your email client should be able to let you select which email address you want to send to and if you want it to be a fax then you would choose the email address that has the fax number associated such as in the example to the right. à

Cell Phone Redirection Menu

5/16/2019

When your extension is linked to your cell phone and you answer an office redirected call on your cell phone, you may use the following quick reference card to know the available options for accepting, rejecting, parking or transferring calls back from your cell phone.   For example, if you answer a call on your cell phone and then want to transfer it back to  a colleague at the office at extension 201, then while on the phone you would press ##2201 and that would transfer the call off your cell phone and back to the office and to extension 201.
To change your cell phone preferences on the PBX,  see the  steps on Linking Your Cell Phone
We have printed wallet size quick reference  cards  available, please let us know if you would like one mailed out to you!
